Set on the last day of school in the year of the bicentennial (1976), this cult classic follows the random activities of a sprawling group of small town Texas high schoolers as they celebrate the arrival of summer, their paths variously intersecting at a freshmen hazing, a local pool parlor and finally at a keg party. This affectionate look at beer blasts, pot smoking and Frampton Comes Alive highlights the joys of youth culture of a bygone era. The upperclassmen are hazing the incoming freshmen, and everyone is trying to get stoned, drunk, or laid, even the football players that signed a pledge not to.
