Newcastle’s rising star Andrew Cushin is gearing up to release his debut album and will mark the milestone with a special event in the city centre.
The 23-year-old is earning legions of fans across Europe as he continues to support Louis Tomlinson on the ‘Faith in the Future’ tour following his success supporting former One Direction singer in the USA. Cushin is performing in front of crowds of around 20,000 in major cities including Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm.
“It’s amazing out here and I’m loving every minute of it,” Cushin said. “Everyone has been so welcoming and the fans at the shows have just been outstanding! It’s been a pleasure and privilege to perform for them.” Cushin said he has “learned so much” from his US experience.
And just days after he returns home to Heaton, Cushin will release his first album called Waiting for the Rain on Friday, September 29. The Geordie singer who is signed to Pete Doherty’s Strap Originals label, will mark the milestone by meeting his fans at an album signing at HMV in Newcastle’s Eldon Square.
The special event will take place at 12pm on Saturday, September 30 and will see Cushin perform a live set inside the store. Fans can attend by pre-ordering a copy of the album from HMV to receive a wristband when they collect their copy.
Cushin continued: “The album signings are gonna be great! Since I started doing music my sole aspiration was to put an album out and the fact that we’re doing that and able to do signings for it is just magic!
“I think the HMV one in Newcastle is gonna be particularly special, doing a signing of my debut album in my home city is just surreal. I just really hope everyone enjoys the record.”
Ahead of the release, Cushin has dropped his sixth track called ‘Just Like You’d Want Me To,’ which will feature on the album alongside ‘Coming Round Again,’ ‘4.5%’ and ‘You’ll Be Free.’
“It’s a song about resilience, hope and inner belief, standing tall and knowing that better days are gonna come,” Cushin said.
“‘We’ll do no wrong if you keep singing along’ is one of my favourite lines from the entire record. It means to me that by the power of music, everything will be okay.”
Cushin has come a long way from singing in Tyneside’s social clubs. Recent years have seen him support the likes of Paul Weller, Jake Bugg, and Blossoms and even work with Noel Gallagher on his 2021 track ’Where’s My Family Gone.’
