Dramarama is a New Jersey Shore-based alternative rock/power pop band formed in 1982. Since 1996 the band has featured an ever evolving lineup of former Dramarama members always fronted by singer/songwriter John Easdale. Dramarama disbanded in 1994 and formerly reunited in 2003.
Dramarama first single 1982’s “You Drive Me” attracted some national attention. The band’s 1984 EP, Comedy, a self-funded five-track debut garnered both critical and cult praise in of all places France. This was followed by 1985’s Cinema Vérité leading to U.S. airplay notably from KROQ-FM the influential Los Angeles radio powerhouse. A single from that album “Anything, Anything (I’ll Give You)” became one of the stations most requested songs in its history. Following their local Los Angeles success Dramarama relocated from New Jersey to Los Angeles.
In 1991 Dramarama released their major label debut Vinyl. The album spawned the singles “Haven’t Got A Clue,” and “What Are We Gonna Do?” Vinyl included contributions from Mick Taylor, Jim Keltner and Benmont Tench.
Dramarama’s final major label release 1993’s Hi-Fi Sci-Fi became a critical and cult favorite with vocal contributions from Dwight Twilley and Sylvain Sylvain. The band broke up shortly thereafter.
In response to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 2003 run for California’s governor John Easdale decided that Dramarama would go on. In 2005 Dramarama released the album Everybody Dies their first album of new material in more than 12 years.
Since 2005, Dramarama have been fairly active continuing to perform frequently as headliners and at various festivals, primarily in California and New Jersey.with original guitarists Peter Wood and Mark Englert joining Easdale.
Dramarama have also released new music for the first time in more than 13 years with two songs, “Swamp Song,” and “It’s Only Money” from their still untitled forthcoming album.
After a 15-year hiatus the band released their 7th studio album Color TV on May 1, 2020
