Young Shreveport, Louisiana native Dylan LeBlanc spent his formative years surrounded by some of the region’s finest musicians by way of his father, singer/songwriter/guitarist James LeBlanc, a longtime Muscle Shoals session player and hit songwriter for modern day country stars like Jason Aldean, Travis Tritt, Rascall Flatts, and Martina McBride.
Dylan began writing his own songs at eleven, and by his late teens, had developed a soulful, bluesy voice and guitar style that resonated with the sights and sounds of his musical youth. He released Paupers Field, his smoky, languid Townes Van Zandt-and Fleet Foxes-inspired debut, on Rough Trade in 2010 at the ripe old age of nineteen, followed by the likeminded Cast the Same Old Shadow in 2012. As he tells it then, he has a crisis of confidence (being touted as ” the new Neil Young,” ) backed off a major label deal and went back home to Muscle Shoals to regroup.
At age 23 now, he has created a new album, Cautionary Tale: a collection of shimmering, arresting songs with the same haunting vocals that caught the attention of Lucinda Williams and Bruce Springsteen, now with a sharpened edge honed by hastened maturity. The album will be out Jan. 15, 2016.
