Jade Elizabeth Bird is a 21-year old British born singer, songwriter and musician. Her debut EP Something American was released in July 2017. Her vocals have been described as “raw and robust.”
Bird lived in London and on a German military base as a child before moving to Bridgend, South Wales to live with her grandmother and mother upon her parents separation. An Army child Bird lived in the United States, South Wales, Chesterfield and Monchengladbach, Germany which had a big influence on her music.
She began learning piano at age eight and started playing guitar and writing songs at age twelve. By age 16, she moved back to London with her mother and stepfather to attend the BRIT School in Croydon where she graduated from in 2016. While at the BRIT School, she performed gigs several times a week.
As a youngster Bird developed a fascination for all things American. On Something American Bird sings about betrayal and the death of young love. This fascination was spurred on partially through the work of country music icons Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton. Armed with a guitar and a booming, sometimes raspy voice Bird has a knack for writing songs about the moments in life that you wish that you could forget.
In 2017 Bird began touring America playing a showcase event at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. In 2018 Bird was a finalist for the BBC Sound Of award. Her debut EP, Something American was recorded in the Catskill Mountains and Woodstock in upstate New York.
