Redlight King is the stage name for <a href=”https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M._Rivers”>Mark Kasprzyk</a> a Canadian musician whose work has ranged from rap rock to alternative rock. He is the lead vocalist and lyricist of the rock band Redlight King, best known for the song “Bullet in My Hand,” which was a hit on radio stations in Canada. He is also an auto sports television personality.
Kasprzyk grew up in Binbrook, Ontario near Hamilton. He became a member of the Canadian National Judo Team and was an alternate for the Canadian team in the 2000 Summer Olympics. At age 16 he began songwriting and after discovering hip-hop took up break dancing. Around this time Mark produced a demo which made it into the hands of Epic Records.
Using the stage name Kazzer Kasprzyk he signed to Epic Records and released his debut album, 2002’s <em>Go for Broke in Canada</em>. The album eventually went on to sell more than 25,000 copies worldwide. The energetic lead single “Pedal to the Medal” was featured in several movies and television shows including the 2003 remake of <em>The Italian Job</em> and the series <em>Malcolm in the Middle</em>.
Kazzer was nominated for a New Artist of the Year award at the 2004 Juno Awards. He has toured Canada and Europe and has opened for the roots in Chicago.
Mark formed Redlight King in 2009. He made news in 2011 for his success in securing permission from Neil Young to allow him to sample Young’s 1972 song “Old Man.” The sample is included on his debut album Something for the Pain released in June 2011. The song became a hit on both the alternative and mainstream rock charts.
Redlight King recently released the single “Lift the Curse” from their new album Moonshine.
