Songwriter and guitarist, Britt Daniel and drummer, Jim Eno lead another little ol’ (four-piece) band from Texas by the name of Spoon. Austin, the birthplace of awesome, is their hometown.

In 1993 the two decided to take the name of the hit song “Spoon” by the German art band Can. You remember that, don’t you?

Spoon were emblems of the indie scene and now, 24 years later, are as expansive and enduring as a flag. An article in the New York Times explains. “Daniel’s classic vision of what is cool has guided the band since its inception.”

The NYT’s article continues. “Spoon’s critical acclaim is almost comically universal. The online review aggregator Metacritic named Spoon the best artist of the decade, above acts like Radiohead and the White Stripes.

“Though the band is now spread out around the country–only Mr. Eno is in Austin; Mr. Daniel moved to Portland, Oregon, in 2005; Mr. Harvey is in Dallas; and Mr. Pope is “intentionally homeless.” The band has a palpable cohesion thanks to Mr. Daniel’s rigorous songwriting and pared-down aesthetic. They wear button-down shirts onstage and have no notable haircuts.”

Spoon’s spring-loaded, indie neo-psychedelic tunes have been featured in films, “Stranger Than Fiction,” “Wedding Crashers” and other flicks; on tv series “The O.C.,” “Shameless,” and many more plus appearances on the usual evening talk shows.

Spoon’s ninth new album Hot Thoughts dropped in 2017 on Matador Records.

In June 2019, the band announced the release of their greatest hits album, Everything Hits at Once: The Best of Spoon. The album compiles the band’s best-known songs, as well as a new single entitled “No Bullets Spent”. The album was released on July 26, again via Matador. On July 9, Rob Pope announced he would be leaving the band.

The new single, a cover of Tom Petty’s  “A Face in the Crowd”  was performed at The Ally Coalition’s 7th Annual Talent Show. https://theallycoalition.org/ . Shot at the Catacomb, Austin TX on October 15, 2020

And, a new album released in 2022-Lucifer on the Couch. “The Hardest Cut” is the first single, “Wild” is the second single. “My Babe” is the new single.
