CURRENT NEWS: Music video for The Raconteurs single “Somedays (I Don’t Feel Like Trying)” from their latest album HELP US STRANGER. Shot at The House On The Rock in Spring Green, WI.
The Raconteurs is an American rock supergroup formed in Detroit, Michigan in 2005. The band features Jack White (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Brendan Benson (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Jack Lawrence (bass guitar, banjo, backing vocals) and Patrick Keeler (drums, percussion). The Raconteurs came together when friends White and Benson collaborated on “Steady As She Goes,” that led to the creation of a full band with the additions of Lawrence and Keeler.
The Raconteurs’ full length debut Broken Boy Soldiers was released in 2006 with the hit single “Steady, As She Goes” with the album charting top ten. Nonstop touring followed bringing the band to audiences throughout North America and Europe. Jack White’s high profile meant that even though the band was new they were able to sell out mid-size venues.
In December 2006 Mojo magazine awarded Broken Boy Soldiers Album of the Year. In 2007, the album was nominated for two Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for “Steady, As She Goes.”
Besides their own songs The Raconteurs are known for performing a number of covers in their live shows. The band’s set list often includes renditions of “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)” popularized by Cher, Bo Diddley’s”Who Do You Love?” and Love’s “A House Is Not A Motel,” among other covers.
In 2008 The Raconteurs second album, Consolers of the Lonely was released receiving Grammy Award nominations for Best Rock Album and winning a Grammy for Best Engineered Album, Non Classical.
Since the release of their second album and subsequent tour The Raconteurs have mostly been on hiatus. In 2010 Benson and Keeler performed Raconteurs’ songs as The Racontwoers at Jack White’s Third Man Records venue to coincide with a repressing of Broken Boy Soldiers on copper-colored vinyl. The full band also played several shows in 2011.
In October 2018, Third Man Records announced a deluxe reissue of Consolers of the Lonely featuring two newly-recorded songs “Sunday Driver,” and “Now That You’re Gone.” The Raconteurs also announced the release of a yet untitled third LP planned for a 2019 release.
