Few artists have packed their music with more soulful energy than Van Morrison. Maybe it’s his Irish heritage, or a close connection with a Higher Source of inspiration. In 2016, he was knighted for his musical achievements and his services to tourism and charitable causes in Northern Ireland. Morrison started his professional career when, as a teenager in the late 1950s, he played a variety of instruments including guitar, harmonica, keyboards and saxophone for various Irish show bands, covering the popular hits of that time. His first work burst onto the scene in 1964 as the lead singer his band, Them. “Gloria,” “Baby Please Don’t Go,” “Here Comes The Night” and “Mystic Eyes” burned up the charts in the UK and the United States. 1966 was the right time for Van to go solo with now classic albums (Astral Weeks) and songs like “Moondance.” Morrison’s steady output has covered all of his favorite musical bases: rock, blues, soul and gospel, in the process.
