ZZ Ward grew up in Roseburg, Oregon, listening to her father’s blues collection and her brother’s hip-hop records. She was named “Zsuzsanna” which she shortened to “ZZ.” By the time she was twelve, ZZ was singing in her dad’s blues band.
She Moved to L.A. in her late teens aiming to break into the West Coast music business with her unique blend of blues, rock, hip-hop, R&B, and neo-soul, as well as her multi-instrumental skills (she’s proficient on guitar, piano, and harmonica). This brought her a recording deal with Boardwalk Entertainment Group and Hollywood Records.
In 2015, The tragic killing of ten people by a lone gunman in ten minutes at Umpqua Community College, Roseburg, happened three years after Ward wrote “Put The Gun Down.” The song was her first single from the album “Till The Casket Drops” and rose to number 39 on the Alternative Rock charts. Songs on the EP, Criminal, “Last Love Song” and “365 Days,” cracked the Top 30 of the Adult Alternative charts.
Ward has recorded special Record Store Day releases and performed across the country, including Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Bonnaroo Music Festival and toured with Eric Clapton.
March 2017 saw the release of two new singles, “The Deep” (featuring Joey Purp) and “Help Me, Mama,” in anticipation of her second full-length album, “The Storm,” released in June, 2017.
