The K-ZAP Short Tail (A Blog) – BeepBeep, BeepBeep, Yeah!

If one is going to write about music and how we all connect with each other around music in a regular K-ZAP blog, I feel comfortable quoting Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland“Begin at the beginning,” the King said, very gravely,” and go on till you come to the end: then stop.” And so partly as a nod to John Lennon & Paul McCartney (huge fans of Lewis Carroll*), I think launching a newsy blog beginning with The Beatles is OK. Plus, Sir Paul just had his 16th anniversary this summer of when he was 64, so “Happy Birthday TO you.” Going forward, the K-ZAP Short Tail will cover new artists’ music we are continually adding to our playlist, deep tracks, community events and concerts coming to town. The things we can chat about around our virtual “communal firepit.” (I am quoting KZAP’s Bob Keller from the upcoming music documentary).

The world is in it’s seventh decade of listening to The Beatles, learning to play their songs, dancing, growing up, saying hello and saying goodbye with their songs. Hearing “Help!” blasting out of my Arvin transistor radio or from the dashboard of the 1963 Nash Metropolitan my big brother was driving was shared FREEDOM. We ALL have our back stories and some of the narrative glue that bonds us to each other is music on this station.

This coming Saturday, August 27, we have a chance to get the K-ZAP gang face-to- face–radio staff, on air hosts and listeners all together now at the  “2nd Annual UTI/Cars & Coffee Sacramento/ Sacramento’s K-ZAP Car Show”.

From Noon to 4pm, on the lovely campus of Universal Technical Institute, 4100 Duckhorn Drive, we can swap stories, chow, imbibe—baby, you can drive my car!! And Killer Bee is going to be one of the judges of the car show!! Over 400 cars and 1000 people attended last year. We’ve got temps in the perfect mid-80s predicted. Be there.

And then, on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at the Crest Theatre, one of smartest guys who has made a successful academic and VERY entertaining career re: the Beatles is in Sacramento at the Crest Theatre. Composer/producer Scott Freiman brings “Looking Through A Glass Onion: Deconstructing The Beatles’ White Album.” A rich, multi-media presentation, he takes us right into the studio as the Beatles create this masterpiece.
