Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Elvin Bishop and Grammy-winning harmonica master Charlie Musselwhite bring their duo show to the Crest Theatre. Both Blues Hall of Famers, they have more than 100 years of playing between them and first recorded together on the Alligator album 100 Years Of Blues.
They’ve known each other since the early 1960s Chicago scene. Bishop grew up in Oklahoma, landed at the University of Chicago, and learned on the South Side bandstands before joining the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. That group helped bring electric Chicago blues to a rock audience and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. Bishop later scored a major hit with “Fooled Around and Fell In Love.”
Musselwhite was born in Mississippi, raised in Memphis, and schooled in the clubs of Chicago’s South Side. Mentored by players like Big Joe Williams and Big Walter Horton, he sat in with Muddy Waters and went on to a long solo career that mixes deep blues with a wide, restless range. He was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2010 and has a Grammy among many other honors.
In recent years the two old friends started doing stripped-down shows together, swapping songs and stories with that easy, front-porch feel. Guitar, harmonica, humor, and the real thing.
